Pippin!

Hi guys, I'm back on the blog and I'm here to talk to you about the show I'm in, "Pippin!"

The show is the first-ever show in the brand new Playhouse on the Square built across the street from the original Playhouse (now the second theater, the Circuit Playhouse) on South Cooper St., Memphis, TN. It is an honor to do this show in particular, I'm not just the only kid in the show, I get to work with Chicago director, Scott Ferguson and Actor's Equity Association member, Sean Blake!

The story is also phenominal, the plot is about a graduate who longs to find his destiny through fighting in a war with his dad, a king and military leader against the Visigoths , running for politics against his father, and ends up living happily in regular life with a wife and a kid (the kid is me!) Now keep in mind, this show has various inappropriate parts throughout the presentation giving it an overall PG-13 rating, there is a whole scene featuring immodestly dressed women attracting Pippin but other than that there's only bad words. It's not terrible, but every parent may not approve.

But it was an awesome experience, the cast of Narnia, the interns only, returned for this new show along with some other actors and actresses I have never worked with including other interns, resident company members, and guest actors like Kent Fleshman, Nicole Hale, Irene Crist, Josh Quinn, Kimberly Blake, Alvero Francisco, Lili Thomas, Stephen Andrew "Standrew" Parker and others. The show is amazing, and if I haven't bragged about it enough, the songs are fantastically written and sung! There's the opening song, "Magic to Do" features the whole cast minus Me, Pippin, Katherine (the character that is my character's mom) in a spectacular number that features magic tricks, hula hoops, ball-walking, and interaction with the audience while each cast member enters out of a big silver box!

There's "Corner of the Sky", a ballad that describes Pippin's longing to find out what he wants to do with his life sung by Pippin, played by Alvero Francisco. There are many reprises of the song including one sung by me in Act II as the finale song!

Other songs included are "War is a Science" by Alvero Francisco and Kent Fleshman, "No Time at All" by Irene Crist, "Simple Joys" by Sean Blake, and "Morning Glow" by Alvero and the cast.

Oh and I almost forgot, there are many little funny parodies and cultural references, they're hi-larious! One features Pippin and The Leading Player (Sean Blake) doing a parody of an Obama speech, it is so funny!

Now, to rap this post up, from all the scenes I've seen I'd give it a rating of 11 stars out of 10 and 3 thumbs up! And if you wanna see some of it for yourself click right about here! Just be sure you have Quicktime on your computer and watch out there are some pictures from the inappropriate scenes and a part of it is on the video, so ask your parents to watch it with you for safety.

You Had to Be There, In Narnia

Yo, yo, yo, yo! It's Max and it's time for JOURNEY TO TENNESSEE! The blog about me in the Volunteer State. Now I'm here to tell you about me volunteering for Narnia, actually like working. For the last few months I'll be working for The Playhouse on the Square in Midtown. I've met new friends, learned new songs, and got the opportunity to work with the wonderful actors at "the Square"...

Meet Bryan Robinson

This guy has the abilities of a strong lion. How? He plays one in the show. He reigns in Cair Paravel. Actually it's like some intern house or something of that sort... He is great at guitar and roaring so don't get him angry!


Meet John Tyberghien

The clever-working actor plays Fenris Ulf or "Maugrim" in the books. He is very fun and is good at quick costume changes (because his other costume is under the other) and can howl as good as Bryan is at roaring.


Meet the Edmunds

Oh and I wouldn't wanna forget the two Edmunds played by Jacob Zelonky and Cole Jackson. They are the funniest guys around. Jacob plays Edmund in the "X cast" with me, and along with Sydney (who you'll hear about later in the post), will also be releasing an awesome new website for child actors like us in Tennessee with audition dates, interviews, reviews, and skits written by him, Sydney, and her sister Zoe who plays his sister in the show too, Susan.


Meet Hannah Dowdy

Not to be confused with Hannah Northam (also in the show), plays the White Stag, a dragon, a cruelie, and an owl that can do the splits. The girl can even juggle! In the show, the dragon character is partnered with a second male dragon and they provide the comedic relief for the show and the White Witch/Edmund scenes especially.


Meet Karin Barile

She is a Theatre Education Staff member who plays the White Witch's right-hand-man known as Dwarf. Backstage, Karin provides help to the other actors like the White Witch, and most of the kids including me during my quick change.


Meet David Ryan

He plays Mr. Tumnus in the show and does a great job at it. He is a flutist, and a bad boy (only in the upcoming Pippin). He is sort of shy, but not on stage. When playing Tumnus he is paired with Sydney Bell who is Lucy in the show.

And last but not least... Laura Stracko

The funniest, the wackiest, the funkiest, the weirdest (weird in a good way), off the wall girl you'll meet. She plays Cockney Mrs. Beaver while Daniel Martin plays Mr. Beaver. She is as funny as Mrs. Beaver as she is as herself. She will soon be playing Annie Sullivan in the upcoming Miracle Worker at the Circuit Playhouse with Carly Nahon of Narnia and it will be her first non-comedy role.

Now I'm not over yet, the post just got started. I didn't tell you about the dance numbers, "Wot' A' Bit' A' Spring Can Do" and "At Last it's Christmas". They were both choreographed by Courtney Oliver, who will be directing the upcoming Oliver. The numbers include all the cast and are pretty good.

I loved the opportunity and it was a fun time from the beginning to end. Thank you to everyone and I'll be back for more. Bye and Merry Christmas to all! And to all a good night!

City of the Apes: A Week in Nashville

A week ago I guess, I went to a magnificent place for vacation. You see, my dad had to go to a seminar in Nashville with his business partner Dr. Hanson, so me and my mom took off with him. So we drove 3 and a half hours to Murfreesboro, TN and I had an awesome time once I got there.

First thing we did was check into our suite in the hotel, Embassey Suites. And I can tell you honestly, it was almost as good as the Animal Kingdom Lodge that I stayed in when I went to Disney World. It has to be like one of the best of all hotels. Hopefully, there will be another Embassey Suites hotel near our next vacation spot.

Next, me and the family went up to our sweet suite. See what I just did there, that's what you call a play-on-words. But, back to the subject, our suite was very luxurious. It had 1 bathroom, 2 sinks, 2 beds, 2 desks, 2 televisions, 1 couch and some chairs, a window with a good view of the outdoor mall across from the hotel, and a little kitchen-like place next to the bathroom where mom made my sandwiches, etc. Really the only bad part was that I couldn't get any of the Disney Channel, nor Disney XD. Fortunately I was there on a Friday, when I got to watch Monk and Psych.

I also got to take the laptop where I wrote a Microsoft Word Document, a biography on Rowlf the Dog, the Muppet, and his rise to fame. So far I got 2 chapters done out of 10. I also used the laptop for internet access, where I went to YouTube to watch the latest episodes of TSLOD (the Suite Life on Deck)

My dad had to go to his chiropractic seminars most of the time, so that left me and mom to do a little sight-seeing. We went to the outdoor mall I told you guys about in the last paragraph where we went to Barnes & Noble where I saw cool books especially a PIXAR encyclopedia that has really been updated, since it said that Cars 2 would be coming out in 2011, which is two years from now.

I had a great time there, but what I really enjoyed was going downtown with my mom and dad to eat at the Rainforest Cafe in a cool mall. But first we went down in to the otherside of the mall where I first went into another restaurant, only to pet stingrays and feed them too!!! And see people feed the pirahna!!!!!. Which I know from watching proffessionals that it's dangerous!

After that we went back down were we ate with the animals, animatronic that is, in the monkey section. Hence the title, "City of the Apes", funny. Huh? Anyway, mom and dad thought the food didn't taste that good. I thought different, the dinosaur chicken nuggets tasted fine to me. But we all loved the animatronics, the hippo, snake, elephants, butterflies, and especially the monkeys. At first I was afraid and scared of the monkeys, especially the little infant monkey, but as Dad and I kept watching them I wasn't that afraid anymore.

The next day, I think, I went to the pool, and I think I stayed there too long. By the time everyone was gone, I was still swimming. Even the lights dimmed as if it was closing down. Then came the last day of our trip where I spent most of my time in the lobby and the halls. I kept going back and forth from mom to waiting for my dad to get out of his seminar in the halls. Good news, dad got a break and I got to see him, I decided to go into the seminar with him. Bad news, it was as boring as in the lobby with mom and Mrs. Hansen talking about "The DaVinci Code". By the time dad got out and all of us got out of Barnes & Noble, we were taking the trip back. And that was my trip to Nashville, at least the good points of it.

Guess Who I Saw?

Hey, I haven't blogged in a while, so I thought I'd tell you about the special guests I saw. First off, last weekend, Dad's best friend from chiropractic college came into town, Danny Dail. And he is so awesome, we played Monopoly Deal: Card Game with him. Most of the time I won, unless Dad was playing. Then he wins. We had a great time, we went to Corky's BBQ Grill place with him, and while I was there I almost caught up on an episode of Muppets Tonight with super-model Cindy Crawford.

And the day after, a Saturday, we went to a 2-hour long audition for the "Star of the Fair" at the carnival/music festival, The Delta Fair and Music Festival. Which, unfortunately, I did not get into the next round. Or the finals with judges, Wizards of Waverly Place's David Henrie, Jasmine Murray & Alexis Grace from Season 8 of American Idol, Byrd the American Idol vocal coach, and Lucy Hale from ABC's Privileged and Wizards of Waverly Place as Justin's goth girlfriend who is currently his real-life girlfriend. Meanwhile, Dad and Danny had been taking him to the "real" part of Tennessee, downtown Memphis. But it was worth it because I got dances from the audience and comments from contestants.

The next morning Danny left, only to have a great Monday at the carnival. Dad and Mom told me. I would be there twice, one time at 10-2:00 and the other from 7-??:00 with Dad. The reason we were going twice was because I wanted to go to a meet and greet with the Wizards star, David Henrie. Who happened to meet me, sign my Disney autograph book and take a picture with me.

Oh, and I have great news. I got the only kid role in Pippin. You might have been thinking I got Edmund in Narnia. But, I only got in the Narnia ensemble. I'm so happy, I hope you have as much fun as I do. Keep reading. Oh, and next weekend, me, Mom, and Dad are going to Nashville. So you might want to stick in for that. Have a happy day, bye!
